Council Member Karl Nurse District 6, St. Petersburg, Florida

MLK Parade

Welcome to the Karl Nurse, City Council, District 6 website. It is intended to provide information as to what is going on in the district, what issues I am working on, where I will be in the near future and several ways to get in touch with me.

District 6 is St. Petersburg's most diverse district. It includes most of downtown, a majority of mid-town, and a range of neighborhoods including Old Southeast, Tropical Shores, Coquina Key and half of Lakewood Estates. It has more neighborhood associations than any district in St. Petersburg with 24. Many nights more than one neighborhood association is meeting and working to improve our community.

All of the issues of St. Petersburg are in evidence in the district. Crime is often the number one issue. I did a ride-along with the Street Crimes Unit of the police department during my 2nd week on City Council to see it up close. Many neighborhoods are in some stage of a comeback and need an ally from the City to help. With most of downtown and the Trop in the district, the Ray's and the stadium proposal is front and center. The impacts of budget cuts are clear in the district. I am working to find ways to save money so as to soften the impacts on children's programs. Energy efficiency is the single easiest way for the city to save money. I am pushing aggressively to make our buildings and city fleet more efficient.

Please contact me so I may help solve the problems of the district or share what I am doing. The contact box allows you to phone, write or email me. I will respond as quickly as I am able.

Sincerely,

Karl Nurse
Member, St. Petersburg City Council, Dist. 6
